I'm not joking about my Climate Commitment

I have a responsibility and commitment to reduce the impact that my work has on the planet.

The planet is not disposable or renewable. We are destroying our habitat and it's devastating to witness in real time. I know that the real problem is bigger than the individual.

It all starts with making conscious decisions about our environment. 

As an interdisciplinary artist, I use many mediums and work in many ways with various collaborators. I recognise that I sometimes have to travel by car - but I defo will commit to the following:

- Cycling or walking where possible 

- Printed limited editions of zines, prints and merchandise, only based on demand [small batches]. This might mean more pre-sales on stuff.

- Use non toxic and recyclable materials, and reduce use of single use plastic

- Save water where possible. 

- Use projections and lighting instead of physical backdrops and non recyclable sets for shows

- Use sustainable materials for stage outfits and costumes and use minimal plastic.

- Try and use less bubble wrap and plastics when preparing for exhibitions and explore alternatives where possible.

- This is a hard one but: minimise electricity use during shows - switching gear off when not in use etc. 

- I do currently use acrylic paint - and as soon as i figure out which are the best non-toxic acrylic paints to use I will make the switch.

- There might be times when I need to use vinyls for projects but I will always conduct research into the most responsible way to dispose of it.

It might not be a major shift as I think my practise is pretty sustainable anyways, but I want to make that commitment and set an example for those around me.

Even small steps count.
